Melting point apparatuses are used to ascertain the melting point of a substance. While their outer appearances may vary, the common feature inside all these apparatuses is a melting point capillary. Within this capillary, the solid sample is securely enclosed before being inserted into the apparatus. The sample is subjected to heat using either an oil bath or a heating block. As the temperature gradually rises, the solid sample transitions into a liquid state. The melting point apparatus records the temperature range during the melting process and provides a means for reviewing the procedure.
