Vertical Electrophoresis System

Vertical electrophoresis systems run polyacrylamide gels upright between glass plates to separate proteins and DNA by size. Mini models take hand-cast gels of 83 x 73 mm or precast gels of 86 x 68 mm, with 10 or 15 wells and 1.0 or 1.5 mm spacers. Some run 1 to 4 gels at once. Sequencing models hold up to 204 samples on 0.4 to 1 mm gels. A 2D unit pairs tube gels with slab gels. Transfer units with platinum electrodes and cooling move proteins onto membranes in about 1 hour. Blotting cells can run 24 hours or longer. Buffer volumes run from 400 to 3500 ml. Typical uses include protein analysis, western blotting and DNA sequencing.
