Automated Cell Counters count, size and classify cells from an image of a stained sample. The software replaces manual hemocytometer counts, which often vary between operators. Brightfield models read trypan blue to tell live cells from dead ones. Fluorescence models use 470, 520 and 620 nm channels for dual-dye viability staining. Each run reports cell concentration and viability. Cell sizes from 0.5 to 200 um are covered, with concentrations up to 3 x 10^7 cells per mL. A count needs 10 to 50 uL of sample and takes up to 90 seconds. Typical uses include cell culture passaging, stem cell work, vaccine production, cytotoxicity testing and yeast counts.
